Additional Information
Established in 1847 Gales Brewery (George Gale & Co. Ltd) was an old brewery situated in Horndean, on the edge of Waterlooville, near Portsmouth in Hampshire, England. In October 2005 Fuller's Brewery bought Gales for 92 million and it was announced on 27 February 2006 that the brewery would close at the end of March 2006. At that point, production of the Gales brands moved to Fuller's Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, London, with the exception of Gales Best Bitter which was one of the few beers that was discontinued.
Some of the Brewery's Range
HSB (Horndean Special Bitter)- First launched in 1959
Gales Best Bitter- Discontinued in 2006
Seafarers - First launched in 2005
Over the years the brand identity is updated and re-launched with subtle changes, a change of Logo or a new font.
Sometimes this brand update is done by the new owners after a brewery has been sold, other times just to give the brand a fresh new look on the ever growing market.
Below are some notes to help identify some of these changes and an aid to reference the year of the glass.
