De Keersmaeker was founded in 1869 in Kobbegem, Belgium, and previously had been a brewery site since 1604. The brewery was also known as "Den Hert", or "The Deer". It first merged with the Brabrux Brewery before being acquired by Alken-Maes in 1971.
